It Truly is AMAZING!

Hello Everyone,

Sunday was a truly wonderful day for me!  Not only did I get to spend with my great friend Deb, but she also helped me clean my studio and get organized!!!

I just love the feeling of freedom and that is exactly how I felt.  I had been living with TONS of scraps under my sewing area and on top of my sewing area, around my sewing area… well you get my point.

Any how… I am now FREE!  Free to move around, free to sew, free to cut, just plain free and darn it feels great!

This is what we started with and we sorted and sorted and sorted….

Deb was fabulous throughout.  We managed to get everything sorted into bins.  Some stayed and some are going up to my classroom studio for Victoria Findlay Wolfe's Class next week.  This way other's can play!!

Here is what my sewing area now looks like...

Before it was piled high with scraps and my kitty would lay one them like a bed.  We sorted through everything and gave everything a place.  No more bed for my kitty.

And look I can see my AccuQuilt Studio Cutter AND actually use it again!!!  I am sooooo excited about that!

Believe it or not, we have more to organize and clean.  We will be doing a lot of that over the next few weeks and I am super excited.

Don't you feel FREE when you get organized?

Until Next Time...

It Was A Great Two Days!

Hello Everyone,

On Friday and Saturday, we had a sort of a mini retreat in my studio!! Some ladies came for both days, some only for one, but it was soooo much fun to see everyone's work in progress!  I love the creativity and the camaraderie.  Let's take a look at what everyone was doing...

Sally was making this One Block Wonder and I was just swooning over it the entire time!!! She is going to teach it as a class in my studio too. I will be taking the class! So stay tuned!!

Donna made her second Fresh Palette.  Do you remember this one?  This was my design that was featured in Quilt Magazine.

Fran was finishing up her One Block Wonder. The original fabric is on the wall to the left.  It was all weathervanes.  Very cool!

Lorraine was attaching the borders to her Indian Summer quilt and it is just gorgeous!  She took this class with me at the studio and has done a phenomenal job.

I was working on my Feathered Star and just taking much delight on how it was turning out.

Roberta was also finishing up her Indian Summer quilt.  It is gorgeous and so different from Lorraine's quilt.

Deb was showing off her Skipping Stones quilt!  This one we have kitted in the shop and also the pattern available.  You can find them both by clicking here.

Randee was making this wonderful star quilt.  Love the Kaffe Spots she used and all the other Kaffe fabrics.

Lisa came with her Amazon Star and I am sooooo in love with this quilt.  The colors that she chose are just amazing.

I wanted Sally to make a One Block Wonder with this fabulous fabric that we carry in the shop.  Isn't it amazing?? You can find the fabric here.

Here is Sally's final layout on her One Block Wonder.  It is going to be gorgeous!!

This is how far I was able to get on my Feathered Star and look, I dressed to match!!!!

Linda made this fabulous scrappy quilt.  Just wonderful!

Deb finished up here Venetian Tiles quilt and is going to teach this as a class in the studio!  I will be taking this too!

Parts...

Hello Everyone,

After showing you my Bali Bed Runner in progress last week, I transferred it to my home studio to work on and piece together all the "parts"!  The past few days I have been working piecing the arcs to the melons.  The only disadvantage to me having it on my design wall at home rather than in my classroom studio is that the bed runner is 104" long.  My design wall at home is not that large.

Therefore, I have to put half up and only do half at a time.  Does anyone else have that problem of not being able to put up an entire quilt at a time??

Anyway, let's take a peek at the parts that I have together...

I have one square done and I just love how it looks.  I am smitten with the raspberries and purples that my friend Deb and I picked to put in the quilt.  They make my heart sing!!

Here is one of the edges of the quilt.  This will get curved binding.

Here is a corner unit.  I really like how the aqua surrounds the pink.

Here are those three parts laid out where they will be.  I am very excited about this quilt and love the way the colors are coming together.

Here is the first half of the quilt.  You can see the other parts on the right that I still need to join together.  I will work on those tomorrow and hopefully be able to get the second half up on the design wall to work on it on Thursday.  So stay tuned, I hope to have more to show you soon.

If you would like to make this quilt, we will have this kitted up for you and in the shop soon.  In the meantime, if you would like the pattern, just click here.

Captain's Wheel

Hello Everyone,

This is not my usual post, but I had to let you all know… it is FINALLY HERE!!

The long awaited pattern… Captain's Wheel!!

Isn't it a beauty?  We have the pattern and a very limited quantity of kits.  Here is some of the information about it:

The Captain's Wheel is part of a series of patterns designed using elements of our Mariner's Compass pattern.  Special thanks to Hoffman California Fabrics for providing the Ombre and Natural Instincts Fabrics designed by McKenna Ryan, along with the 1895 companion fabric used for the background in the cover sample.  McKenna Ryan Ombre fabrics were used to complete the compass rose blocks.  Natural Instincts fabrics were used in the Captain's Wheel and border.  And one, 1895 background fabric was selected for the rest.
Measures 79" X 79

You can find your pattern by clicking here and your kit by clicking here.

Enjoy!

Until Next Time...

Flying

Hello Everyone,

Some of you may know that my hubby flies.  He has been after me for several years to take the Pinch Hitter course.  That is when I learn how to land the plane in case something happens to him.  Well, yes I finally started learning a few weeks ago.  I wanted to give you a few glimpses into the lessons and my journey.

Here I am in the right seat getting ready to take off.

There is my hubby with the plane.

This was the first time my hubby had to ride in the backseat and he said it was comfy!

Our friend and my Flight Instructor, Scott.

This was taken a few weeks back during peak fall foliage in New England.  Glorious!

This was taken the following week, you can see how the leaves have changed and many have fallen.

A view of Hartford and the Connecticut River.

Yesterday, there was no lesson for me only a jaunt to Block Island with friends.  This is coastline of Block Island, pretty isn't it?

On the approach to the airport at Block Island.  Just a glorious day!  Who would think it was November?

The hubs and I at the Block Island airport.

Our friends Lisa and Kurt.

The approach back to Hartford.  This was taken actually a few weeks back.  Today, as you read this I may actually be landing the plane over and over again.  Wish me luck!

I must say beginning this adventure was a little nerve racking, but I am becoming more and more relaxed as I go along.

Until Next Time...

My Other Project

Hello Everyone,

Yesterday, I told you that I was working on a couple of projects simultaneously.  I really was telling the truth.  Today, I am showing the other project.

I am working on the Bali Bed Runner.  I used a very bright palette against black and white fabrics for the backgrounds.  Initially I was having some difficulty on the layout and not sure which way to go.  I will show you here...

I had many colors to work with here and this was one of the layouts I was considering, a transitioning of colors from ring to ring.

This was the next layout, just total randomness.

And the third was color blocking each different color.

But here is what I went with...

A sort of a combo of color blocking and transitioning.  I think it works well and best for the colors that I have chosen.  Now to get it sewn together and put the corner stones in place.

The colors are fun and funky, bright and bold just like I like it!!  If you like this too, we will have this EXACT kit available in our online shop soon, so keep an eye out.

In the meantime, if you would like to make this the pattern is available in our shop!! And guess what it is on sale!  Here are the details:
